Industrial quantities of imodium

(how’s that for a catchy title?)

A couple of years ago, I had my whole large intestine removed because of a bad bout with ulcerative colitis.

After a very unpleasant year with an ileostomy, my doctor patched me back up and restructured my small intestine to do the work of my large intestine as well.

Part of the deal, though, is that now I have to take imodium all the time to slow down the digestive process (I won’t gross you out with any more detail than that). When I say ‘all the time’, I mean probably about 4 times a day.

Imagine how sick to my stomach I felt when I went to the drug store and found that an 8-pack of imodium costs like 4 bucks! That’s 60 dollars a month on anti-diarrhoea medicine! How’s that for a line item on a budget?

After a while I was relieved to find that walmart sells their off-brand in bulk for a much fairer price. I could get 2 bottles of 96 for about 10 bucks, and that’s what I’ve been doing for a couple of years…

…until yesterday

Steph and I were at Costco and I found that the Costco brand, ‘Kirkland Signature’ sells 2 bottles of 200 for about 5 bucks! That’s 1/4 of the walmart price!

Do you see that disparity in the price? The brand name costs $60 for a one month supply, and at Costco I can get a 3-month supply for 5 bucks!

So, if you happen to have a serious digestive disease… or perhaps work at a school and need to buy industrial quantities of imodium, got to Costco!

You’re welcome ;0)

  1. I knew that membership would come in handy for something! :0) I love you and the whole going to the bathroom a lot doesn’t bother me in the least bit. Besides, we make quite a pair b/c with me being pregnant we’re both hittin up the bathroom an awful lot! mwahh

  2. i’ve thought about you every time i’ve taken immodium for the last two years. that’s been a lot since we arrived here. unfortunately, it’s $3 for 4 pills here. 🙂
