I’ve been on a country music kick lately, and I found a new song that I like a lot.
Every so often, Steph will ask me questions like, “What do you think you would be doing right now if you had never met me?”
The married men reading this will understand that it’s a totally loaded question.
In all honesty, if I had never met my wife, then some things would probably be better on the surface:
I’d probably have better stuff, get out on my mountain bike more, keep up with sports better, and have a little more traveling under my belt.
I’d probably be in better shape, and I wouldn’t have to tip-toe around three sleeping people in a dark house early every morning when I’m getting ready for work.
But I wouldn’t be half the man I am today.
I wouldn’t be half as good at listening to people, or loving them in general.
I wouldn’t be half as close to being able to appreciate the grace God pours out on me through Jesus, because I wouldn’t have anyone who loves me enough to show me all the gross sin in my heart.
M&Ms and Bojangles would probably be my primary food groups.
And most of all: I would be so miserably lonely… I’d go to bed every night begging God to let me meet Steph.
So… now that all that sappiness is out of the way…
An up-and-coming country singer named Lee Brice has written a song that captures that sentiment really well.
The video’s a little bit cheesy, but crank up the speakers and give it a listen:
