This Is Offensive. And True.

December 6, 2010, by Zack No comments yet

Mark Driscoll with six minutes on some fundamentals about Jesus.

The money quotes:

Spirituality without Jesus is Demonology.

You cannot – you WILL NOT – connect to God apart from Jesus.

Your sin NEEDS to be atoned for.

If you disagree with what  Mark says here, then I respect that. I respect you, and love you.

But you really do need to know this:

if what is said here offends you, then Jesus should offend you.

You need to know that.

If you are one of my many friends who thinks “Jesus is cool. To each his own, you know?” then you can’t possibly understand who Jesus is… who He claimed to be and why He said He came.

I beg you to open your Bible and read the Gospel of Mark.

It’ll take you about 30 minutes.

I think you will find that Jesus only offers to be

1) your Savior

or

2) your Judge

That’s it.

He loves you too much to let you marginalize Him.

Think about it.

What Is The Bible Really All About?

September 9, 2010, by Zack 1 comment

In the past few years, my understanding of God and the Bible have changed dramatically.

In this 3-minute video, Tim Keller explains what I have been learning: The Bible isn’t about me. or you. It’s about Jesus.

The whole thing is about Jesus.

It isn’t about what God can do for you.

It isn’t about right and wrong.

It isn’t about good and evil, or a proper understanding of morality.

It isn’t just history.

It’s primarily about Jesus.

The WHOLE thing.

(If your pastor isn’t making the clear, do me a favor and kick him in the but.)

10 Reasons Why Believing in the Sovereignty of God Matters

September 18, 2009, by Zack 6 comments

There’s an article this month on the Desiring God website titled 10 Reasons Why Believing in the Sovereignty of God Matters.

If you consider yourself to be a follower of Jesus, or someone interested in God in any capacity, I highly recommend that you take a minute and go read it.

The idea that God is ‘sovereign’ is commonly thrown around and disputed in christian circles…

Eternal Earth-Bound Pets

August 24, 2009, by Zack 9 comments

You’ve committed your life to Jesus. You know you’re saved.  But when the Rapture comes what’s to become of your loving pets who are left behind?

Who hasn’t asked themselves this question?

I know Stephanie and I have had several heated arguments about this.

I say, “Hey, we all know those crazy people next door wont be going. They’ll surely take care of the animals.”

Then she gets upset and contends that, surely, all dogs go to heaven.

…

OK. Enough with the sarcasm.

We actually don’t even own any animals. We have very loose beliefs about the reality and nature of the rapture. And if it does happen, I hope with all my heart that our neighbors won’t be here afterwards.

But of all the crazy products and services available these days*,  I bet you’ve never heard of Eternal Earth-Bound Pets, USA.

Take ultra-opportunistic American capitalism, add diverging worldviews, and you get a service offered by atheists, specifically for pre-millennial evangelical christians.

No seriously.

See for yourself:

atheist-pet-service

They introduce their service like this:

You’ve committed your life to Jesus. You know you’re saved.  But when the Rapture comes what’s to become of your loving pets who are left behind?   Eternal Earth-Bound Pets takes that burden off your mind.

They go on:

We are a group of dedicated animal lovers, and atheists. Each
Eternal Earth-Bound Pet representative is a confirmed atheist, and as such will still be here on Earth after you’ve received your reward.  Our network of animal activists are committed to step in when you step up to Jesus.

We are currently active in 20 states and growing.  Our representatives have been screened to ensure that they are atheists, animal lovers, are moral / ethical with no criminal background, have the ability and desire to  rescue your pet and the means to retrieve them and ensure their care for your pet’s natural life.

This would be a hilarious joke, except I’m pretty sure they’re serious…

Which makes it tragic…
